The equation from the first post: Has anyone updated their Accumulator / Solar panel blueprints to have a global grid setting so you can just put them down anywhere and it aligns right? By default, this is just the standard Accumulator and Solar Panel, but mods may change them or add more and this mod handles them. Or we can say we need 21/25 (=0,84) accumulators per solar panel. Like the famous 0.84 ratio. Or is "better" to have some boilers left as a backup generator. by mrvn » Mon Aug 24, 2020 12:16 pm, Post Radar consumes 300kW which is 5 solar panels at it's full. A simple mod that adds a button to calculate optimal solar panel ratios. Rule of thumb is 20 accumulators per 24 solar panels per KW demand, or more specifically 84 accumulators per 100 solar panels (generating roughly 4KW). Downloaded: 1198 times. You can keep it 100% powered with eight solar panels and six accumulators, which is at a 0.75 actual ratio (more solar panels than needed). Factorio version: 0.18 - 1.1. The Radar continuously charts an area of 7×7 chunks (224×224 tiles), centered on the chunk the radar occupies. Sometimes it is more economical to just avoid consuming energy at night. I made an excel sheet once to calc the correct numbers precisely. this post is a blueprint for the solar farm in the picture. If your math were correct, then the 300kW needed for full power on a radar needs 7.142857->8 solar panels and (by your ratio) 7.5->8 accumulators. Factorio Solar Panel Ratio – Optimal Ratio The optimal ratio is 0.84 or 21:25 accumulators per solar panel, and 23.8 solar panels per megawatt required by your factory. by Impatient » Thu Aug 13, 2020 8:58 am, Post One other important thing to keep in mind is that only 70% of the solar panels power will be available for use by your factory so each can only give you an effective power of 42 kW. There's also a lot of arguments saying this ratio is only valid under certain conditions and it's not applicable to every factory. As already stated, solar panels produce energy only during the day, but you are likely to want your factory running at night as well. A big solar panel and Accumulator that generates more energy for a big cost, but smaller space. Should be easy to test if you have a developed factory already. There are many articles computing the perfect ratio of solar panel to accumulator to be 1 to 0.84. Enjoy! from my ingame tests (0.18) it seems to be slightly more than 0.84, more like 0.8407 ... Sry if i dont get this correct but i have one question. Plop down a solar panel, accumulator, and some small draw on a separate electric system. by DaveMcW » Mon Jul 02, 2018 8:26 pm, Post Again accumulators are 2 to 3 times better in terms of material costs. At reduced power levels, this nearby pulse scan will take longer, which can lead to 'blinking' on the player's map similar to the long range scan. And even there oil might be rare and you might need every drop for something else while having lots of iron/copper deposits. How big should this be? Minimizing the amount of solar panels first is therefore definitely the way to got. The ratio 25:21 solar panel to accumulators others have pointed out is accurate and is the optimal ratio. It takes 20 accumulators (100MJ) to maintain 1MW through the night, because the accumulators don't immediately start discharging at the beginning of dusk, see the graph in this post.
